Okay, this has been a big problem of mine for my whole model horse 'career'. Backdrops, or the Natural scene. I personally prefer the natural scene, allthough I decided to go to the model train shop and get some fake grass, trees and a backdrop. Trust me, they were not cheap! (a present from my grandma though!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BACKDROP NATURAL (It is a dam, not a puddle ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BACKDROP NATURAL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BACKDROP (I just need to crop it more) NATURAL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks. -Gkblohnro

Hi Georgie- Luv the new siggie~ Um... I prefer the background with Bouncer, and the natural scene with the other two horses- and the lighting in the outdoor pics are JUST right!!!!

I think you just need to put something along the edge of the photo background to distract from the obvious different in greens. But the lighting is definately better in the outdoor pics.

I think they all look good, but I prefer the natural ones - they look more natural LOL!!

I use natural backgrounds as i've always had trouble with a backdrop, but i always find that a lot of judges will be opinionated when it comes to judging them, even if you can get the things in scale. It's wierd, i think my photos are fine, but a lot of people tend to prefer the back drops...sometimes my horses will do really well (e.g. champion at the HPMHC nationals) and then really poorly with a different judge. Meh, model horse showing can be as bad as the hack ring!

You said it! I must admit though, the model horse people are much nicer than the show ring folk!

I know! (heaps of my natural pics [mainly the SM ones] were just too 'out of scale' even when the grass was mowed down to the lowest point [well not that there was much of it due to the drought!]) Love that pic of the Cigar mold- the outdoor one- its great!

Actually i sometimes find the SM's easier to blend backgrounds as my camera focuses only the model and blurs everything else mainly=)

That's exactly what I find. And why I like to photograph SMs because them you don't have to worry too uch about the background and it usually turns out nice if it's blurred. Unless the camera feels like being stupid. XD
