If the links only take you to the main album, click the 'stallion halter' and the pictures are there.

Hi Georgie They are a bit too dark - (it is hard to see the model's details properly) and I see what you mean about not being able to lighten them up too much - I think the problem there is that you need to turn your setup around 180 degrees so that the sunlight is not behind the models - when you try to lighten the pics then part of the horse's back gets too bright - I played with a couple of pics I copied from your web page - cropped and brightened (as much as I could before the sunlight glinted too much) Before After Before After I hope this helps - just LMK if you need any more help....

I don't understand how all of them could be dark, not one of them placed??? are they ugly or something maybe I am cursed or some silly thing. I have never done anything that has been worthwhile with them, ripped my bank account to shreds, worked overtime for them and still not even a 10th. Great for me! Thanks for your help anyway.

I think your pictures have the right idea, they just need to be taken with the sun not facing the camera. Otherwise your models are very nice! Don't give up and keep trying with different backgrounds and places etc. and then maybe you'll do better. I really don't understand the lack in placing. Also remember though that it was Amy's second show she's ever judged, it can only get better.

I'm new to this hobby too, but it's very hard to see the detail on the horse in your photos. OK, the outline is fine, but when you compare the before and after photos kindly done by Bassgirl, you can see much more detail in the after photos.
However, having said that, I think you've done an excellent job with the background and your models are very nice.
Long ago I discovered that when showing real horses (and putting on shows for real horses!), there will always be people who don't agree with the judge's decision. You can't please everyone all of the time. I always try to learn from whatever helpful comments the judge makes, and hope for a better result next time.

Remember, when they mention things like that, they only want you to improve, they don't want to hurt you. If you think your photos are bad...you should have seen the mine in my first 6 months of showing......alle vidence of those should be burned!! Just look at everyone elses, especially those who place well regularly, and see how you can improve yours. If in doubt, jsut ask...we're all here to help Good luck!! ;D

Yes, that's right - we all have to start somewhere - if it makes you feel better I can show you pics of my first ones - and they were REALLY bad! I did banish them out of my photo box, but they are lurking somewhere to haunt me again! We all have times where we feel bad, I've been known to have a good dummy spit, usually it's the models that are the last straw after everything else in private life has gone wrong. Even with my pics which are good I've entered shows and done very poorly - heck, I know the judges get bored with mine if I show the same one too many times - they tell me to get off my butt and take some new ones *joking* ;D ;D ;D ;D Feel free to PM me if you need to have a chat.

Hey Georgie, I really like your setup! I agree, you should turn your setup around. I find the best days to take photos are overcast days, or in the mid-afternoon, or even in the shade if it's bright enough. You don't need backgrounds to take good pics, just as long as the lighting is good!
