Introducing my first decent CUSTOMISED Horse! He was the g2 Galloping Black Thoroughbred stally Stablemate, and NOW "Tobias" is a HUNKY Piebald stally, ideal for barrels, except he came to me broken (he was a freebie coz his leg was broken i loooove freebies) and I just need the superglue to glue his leg back on. Of course, he isnt a showie, although I could enter from time to time in a barrel racing class as long as the break was unseen.....but Ill think about it.... Not bad for my first etchie- it was funny because (instead of Homework) I was going to practice customising him using boiling water, maybe moving his legs into a canter, but it wouldnt work, so i grabbed a really sharp stanley knife blade (kiddies, dont do what amy does) and got bored, and just started etching. I HAVE FOUND A NEW PASSION- IT IS SO FUN!!! Stuff the tack, here come the paints!!!!! Nah, I plan to CM a bay Traditional mare into a paint, of course using etching... but apart from that, I have no other victims... i mean models.... It is great fun! Just dont scratch too hard like I did!!! Although he isnt as good as kurrawinya's gorgeous creation!

It's a different sort of etching isn't it. Well I guess it's still etching. But I thought of it as scratching the model so it had lotsa hair. But this works too, it looks nice.

does the paint actually like, flake off or something when you etch?

no, just think of it as "drawing" on the white with the knife.

awww ta! I didnt want him to have "hairs" and the paint came off really well without scratching the model. Ill have a few more goes until i get it right! Etching depends on the artist- some (like mine) can look pretty basic while others look really detailed, with hairs covering the whole body. I didnt like that hairy look, and it wouldnt work on the black horse, prolly would look better on a chestnut or lighter colour....

hmm, yeah. i guess it also depends on how hard you press and the paint on the model.
