Model Horse shows are a big event. What's seperates the winners from the runners up are usually just simple mistakes.
Pictures that are more realistic are more likely to win.
Here are some things you should check before you take your photo.
1. Is there any leaves or twigs where i am goin to take the picture and in the background?
2. Is there a big tree with big leaves in the background? If you are using a tree or bush make sure the leaves are small, 1 - 2 cm long.
3. Does the fake grass look like real grass? Compare to your grass outside.
4. Are there any buildings or objects that are in a much bigger scale?
5. Try not to take your pictures on tables or bricks.
6. If you are taking a picture on real grass make sure the grass is extra short and that there are no wispy bits in front on the model.
Ok ive gotta go watch Lost, hope those tips helped!

lol don't worry, I've had a farrier's anvil in the background in one of my photos without really thinking about it... but that was before I knew about even having proper backgrounds

Yeah well im searching the internet for backgrounds to print out for my models (classic size) and dont worry im burning them to a cd and taking them to actually get printed out properly.
But i have to look for pictures over 1000 pixels coz i have to get them printed out A4 size.
I got some good paddock ones but i can't find any show ring pictures anywhere!

Well i actually got a dressage rider with the full outfit with a black dressage saddle and bridle (the bridle ish to big) and its looks brilliant on all my models! I have some really good ideas. I'm so excited coz its my bday soon so i shall get lots of money so i can print out backgrounds . And what colours did you get the grass mats in?

Do we have Schleich fans too?? I reached the big 30 today, thats only the horses! I like tha cows too- good for western shots! Anyhow, I got the dressage set too, but my bridle has snapped! ): Boo Hoo!!! Do you guys have the actual dressage markers or do you make them? Im not sure, as they can be a little $$$$$$. Maybe Ill make them-- GOOD TIP- Go into any good stationary shop or newsagency thingy and buy some black letter stickers (usually they come on a clear background and are used in craft etc) They are great when making dressage markers!

I'm just about at the stage where I really have to get some backgrounds! I want to start showing, but having no backgrounds makes it a bit hard. I got some good ideas by reading your posts though

I am looking for backgrounds, and need a good dressage arena (Im gonna take a photo of my friend's one outdoors and blow it up to a good size) (BOOOOOOOOOOM!) For another background idea, maybe a liberty sunset background to drool for? I am going to paint a plain background blue, and put a white western fency thing in front to look like a western arena. Ooh- by the way, I pronounce Schleich (sleigh- like you would go riding in). I am utterly addicted to these gorgeous little ponies! I lv all model horses!!! Amy. Did you know - the recent 06 Schleich chincoteague mare looks like my Melody! I couldn't resist!
